BOOK RANT: Bullied (Book 1)
Unfortunately, safety must include the prevention and detection of abuse, violence and neglect. Studies suggest that individuals with developmental disabilities are at a much higher level of risk than their peers Sullivan and Knutson, Given this information and how critical it is to keep our loved ones safe, Autism Speaks has provided information from experts in the field explaining what abuse is, the signs of abuse, what to do if your loved one has been abused and how we can take steps to reduce risk.
We have also provided numbers to call for help and guidance, as well as state and national resources. Physical abuse includes, but is not limited to, shaking, beating, biting, kicking, punching and burning which is not accidental. Neglect refers to situations in which an individual is not provided with adequate guardianship, food, clothing, shelter, education, or medical care, whether done intentionally or unintentionally.
While no one knows for sure, it is estimated that children with disabilities are more than twice as likely to be physically or sexually abused as their typically-abled peers. Petersilia, J. What are signs that my loved one might be the victim of abuse? More apparent signs may include unexplained bruises, pain or weight loss. Additionally, behavior changes, including avoidance of certain people or places, may indicate victimization.
If my loved one is non-verbal are there certain things I should look for? Some behavioral changes to keep an eye out for are social withdrawal, avoidance of particular places or people, behavioral outbursts when presented with particular places or people, or developmental regression. Contact law enforcement immediately. It is appropriate to call to report abuse. If the abuse happens within an agency setting, contact the State regulatory agency which provides oversight to the organization.
If your loved one has a Service Coordinator, contact him or her regarding follow up on the report and to ensure that safeguards are immediately put in place.
What are some things that families can do to keep their loved ones safe? Families can educate themselves on how to identify warning signs and how to report if abuse or neglect is suspected. Families should talk to their loved ones openly and honestly about personal safety, boundaries, saying no, and healthy and unhealthy touch. Families should give their loved ones opportunities to role play potentially dangerous situations and practice how they might respond to these.

I've been reading a lot of fics about Loki, about his POV during the events of Thor and afterwards, and have become hopelessly smitten with the scamp that he is.
Thor can be as bad or as indifferent as you like; hell, I'll even take good Thor; what I want to see is where someone else clues Thor into what his brother has been going through all this time. I'd like to see where the Avengers welcome Loki in with open arms, and maybe give Thor the cold shoulder. Any pairing, or gen, doesn't matter. Just want to read real angst-fests where other people realize that Loki isn't such a bad guy, after everything he's been through, and where Thor isn't so perfect and wonderful as he's been led to believe.
I hope this makes sense to someone!!! Thanks in advance, guys! I've tried to tag correctly, and have probably instead tagged excessively; sorry about that!!! Post a new comment Error. This novel illustrated intense abuse and torture towards a teenage girl that has been performed by the whole school. Sarah and Hayden hate each other but they grow a romantic relationship where he continues to be abusive. Rather than addressing bullying, showing the wrong in bullying — the author depicted an abusive relationship and intense bullying that tells no deeper meaning.
I address two issues I find in this novel and that is school bullying and abusive relationships. School bullying in school is a serious matter.
In Australia alone, it has been studied that 1 in 4 students have been reported to be bullied every few weeks or more often Source: Australian Institute of Family Studies.
The bullying depicted in this novel is very extreme, involving serious psychological and physical harm to the victim. It was so extreme that it is almost terrifying. The novel did address the pressure victims feel, including feeling like no one can help them and feeling alone. The whole school was part of the abuse towards the one victim due to apparently being one of the causes of her best friends death.
Yet, the novel leads to nothing about fighting bullies nor aiming to relinquish the wrongs of the bully. Rather, I found myself seeing that the author provided a justification for the bullies wrongs. Truly, there was no deeper meaning in this story. I am never a fan of violent romance. I have been studying domestic violence and knowing what I know about domestic violence, the romance in this novel is disturbing. I hope in the later novels, he overcomes his violent urges and learns that he should never abuse another person.
Yet, it is clear at the end of the novel that he is a violent person and he will always resort to violence due to his condition. Even when he admitted his feelings, he still resorts to violence from being jealous.
I understand he has that sort of condition that makes him do that. However, the disgusting truth is that there are many relationships where one person resorts to violence just for the victim not doing what the perpetrator wants and they have no known psychological condition. Looking at the statistics above, it is clear that domestic violence is a huge prevailing issue within our society. People are violent and use violence in their relationship to maintain control and this novel depicted exactly that.
When Sarah started to get stronger and Hayden was losing control, he would get angry and harm her.
So truly, his condition does not excuse his behaviour. But the story fails to depict the seriousness of that sort of relationship and how dangerous it is to join that relationship. The end of the novel, I read the comments and see that many wanted them to be together.
Bullying Stories post
I understand that not many people, especially the younger readers, understand the seriousness of domestic violence but a story like this needs proper warnings and information about abusive relationships. This is not a story for young readers. This is definitely not something people should read without warnings. I started reading this novel expecting no physical violence and low form of bullying as it is a romance novel.
But this should not even be categorised as a romance novel at all — it is not fitting. However, I find that the main theme of this novel is romance, as chosen by the author. Our society should not find something good coming out of bullying like this novel appeared to do — it should reject this form of behaviour and move on to a bully-free world.
I'm just a simple twenty-year-old girl living in Australia.Kids can be cruel, for many reasons and most often on a fleeting basis.
But bullies are tenacious in their brutal acts, and scientists have not had much luck figuring out why. A new study sought answers in a way no other study has, by asking bullies why they do it. Bullies with the most hostility reported picking on kids because those kids were not good at sports.
The most frequent bullying involved picking on students they perceived to be gay or lesbiana result that agrees with another recent study on bullying. While much more needs to be learned, the researchers now speculate that the beliefs and ideals of a particular community or society may influence bullying behavior.
The research seems to indicate bullying is about "social attitudes manifesting themselves in a very basic way within the school environment," said study researcher Ian Rivers of Brunel University in the United Kingdom.
Although the research was conducted in the U. The study involved students ages 12 to 16 from 14 schools who had recently reported bullying others. The researchers compared the bullies with a group of students who had not recently engaged in bullying. Participants completed a questionnaire on bullying behavior, including a question on why they bullied others, followed by a list of options.
Other surveys assessed students' mental healthsubstance abuse issues and demographic information. Bullies were more likely than non-bullies to live in families without two biological parents, such as living in single parent families, living with extended family members or with foster parents.
Such situations may mean bullies, in some cases, do not receive as much attention at home, the scientists said. Fifty-nine percent of bullies said they had been offered alcohol in the last seven days compared with just Bullies were also at higher risk for mental health problems, including depression, anxiety and hostility. High hostility was associated with picking on students because they weren't good at schoolwork, they had certain possessions, or they were perceived as being gay or lesbian.
Some of these issues may tie in to societal views as well. Society places a lot of value on possessions and "therefore envy can become a motivator," Rivers said. Communities might also be split on the issue of homosexuality, a topic some schools still have not properly address, Rivers said.
Bullies tended to hold a negative view of themselves, suggesting they pick on others to feel better about themselves, and they may especially single out those who have trouble fitting in for other reasons. Rivers is also examining surveys from victims and witnesses of bullying, which he hopes will provide a bigger picture of the behavior.

I sadly, cannot put the links here because they will dissappear. I do not know why. I tried before and It failed. You might have got the notification. Thankfully, I saved this on my computer so I didn't have to rewrite it all. There you all go! That was the first part of my news, my second part is I have made a gmail account completely dedicated on Olympus Angel!
I am not going to write it here, because of creeps, so if you want the email you will have to PM me. If you just want to be friends, that's okay too. BUT, I don't want strangers with this email.A BULLYING STORY (Perfectly Imperfect Ep. 1) - Janina Vela

Just saying, that I don't talk to all these people mentioned but I have spoken to them occasionally and they are nice people which is why I will accept their requests. Also, I will NOT put my real name on my email.
It will be Olympus Angel, and that is it. The email has no personal information, I just felt that my normal gmail was too confusing with my fanfic and Wattpad stuff. So I made one for my writing. So I would really appreciate you leaving nice reviews. Also, for all the Wattpad users, I have recieved no reviews from you, so I don't know what you all think and I have to know your opinions.
